The River of Merikarvianjoki 27.-29.9.

This weekend action was fishing, haviving sauna and eating in Merikarvia. These were the most important activities. The quality of fishing was at its best in autumn time. The water was already cold, but still at low level. Who remembers the last rain? On the surface were floating a lot of leafs, because the frost has bitten trees. A palette of colours to look at. The saldo of two days fishing was one nice grayling, a rainbow about two kilos and a hit and lost trout. It was perhaps a put fish not searun fishes. I visited the Fly & Fun happening, too, to tell about the Finnish Championships in Fly-tying, which will be arranged in Parainen in november. We had FUN time and the participants were a nice gang. I would have stayed longer, but our home gang wanted other kind of fun.

Under the big bridge from 4.30 - 7.00 o´clock pm. Perches were in the lazy mood, but some medium size anyway with Motor-oil. Only two kilos file.
Again three minor zanders.
Houtskar 27.-29.9.
HannuR, Bude, Reiska and Sampo
Friday two hours of fishing: Four pikes with flies, 8 with spinning lures, 1-5 kg.
Saturday: 17 pike with flies, 20 spinning, 1-6,3 kg. About 30 medium size perches with grub twisters.
Sunday: 21 pikes with wobblers and other spinning lures, 1-3 kg.

Timo, Esko and Aarne
The saldo today: a bit lesser perch filee as yeaterday, but enough. Again six zanders about 700 g each, and one id.
Aarne is now the Cup-holder!

Again in the morning under the bridge. Till eleven o'clock 250+ g perches so many, that we made three kilos filee.

Under the big Ava bridge from 8.30 to 13.00. About 100 perches, the biggest one440 g, medium we took up 300 g. In the evening from 16.00 to 18.30 the same place. About 70 perches, The biggest exact700 g (Aarne). The medium was better than in the morning.
Incredible: Esko caught a 43 cm z a n d e r!

Testing flyrods in sea fishing, belly boat and jigging rods. With Spinnerbait and Berkley's Catepillar jig small pikes. Jani was floating all day long, result a broken tippet. Hannu caught with a orange Deceiver a pike. Pikes were in the mood just to knock on the lures not to hit really. Some small perches with grub twisters.

Three hours of fishing with wobblers, spoons and spinners. The trouts and salmons were tailing all the time. I saw many beautiful fishes, but the line was always light, when I reeled it back.
Kynasjoki 13.-15.9.
MarkkuR and the Team of Fishing Institute
Me and eight first year students from Fishing Institue we had a camping weekend by Kynasriver. The water level was low, and a cold weather front hold us awake. Big graylings were not intererested in our offers, but some 30 cm fishes we caught about 14 fishes. Some trouts were in the mood , too, no legal size fishes, but 6 pcs 30-38 cm told us , that there are trouts in the river. JP Pohjola had a really big one on with a insect imitation fly.
Janne and a rainbow
Reijo Viljanen, the host of the river, has again put in the river nice size of rainbows. We caught 15 fishes, and about the amount we lost fishes. The medium size was about 1.8 kg, the biggest one 2.8 kg. Now even I caught 4 fighting rainbows with fishing upstream, biggest 2.4 kg. One fish took my Brown Leech, so I had to tie a new one. I caught with it immedistely the fish to take with me to my wife. Fishing rainbow trouts is fun, too!

Helping the fishing guides of Vaparetket (Mikko ja Ville). I visited the river early in the morning before the group arrived. Saldo one hit and lost and one rainbow up with The Hot Ass fly. We fished with the group to 17.30. There was one real fisherman in this group, he caught two rainbows with wobblers. The others had only minor fishes. Anyway we all ate fishes, because Mikko made for us rainbows in open fire. That was good, thanks! Thanks to all the group, this was a nice autumn day!

Two hours fast visit to Haihunkoski. There was water only in the main stream. I caught one 39 cm trout with a green beadhead pupa.

Zandering from 16.30 to 19.30 o'clock. 3 zanders and a pike. The pike was 5,3 kg and95 cm. Two of the zanders were legal size 40 cm and 41 cm.

Atrip to testfish Vision flyrods for pikes and jigging rods. Hannu caught two pikes with fly (Orange Marabou Deceiver) and one with grubjig . SFM-toimitus one pike with spinnerbait. The pike were not in the hitting mood: they were not even interested in a dead fishbait, lucky we had a lot of wind. Some small jigperches, too.

Lankoski 1,5 hours of fishing. saldo two rainbows lost and one up to the supper table. One beautiful and natural born brown trout 42 cm ( the adipose fin was ok). the waterlevel perfect for fishing, about 2 cubic meters per second. The fishing guides of Vaparetket, Ville ja Mikko, had both unfortunate NF.

Nothing really to report! Four perches and fishing all day long. We had no echoload and experience of these new places. Not even a pike...

Fishing zanders from 16.00 to 20.30. 13 Zanders of which legal size 10, the biggest one 47 cm. All the fishes took just near by the bottom. Greenback Jesse-wobbler was again the best lure (saldo 7 fishes).

Fishing half a day, results: About 10 pikes and some perches. Pikes took fire-tiger Bomberilla and some with flyfishing, perches took Motor oil grubs. Medium in pikes was small, but one 4.8 kilos fish was left in waters after the Pikefishing Competition of Brando. (This weekend)
Canada, Rocky Mountains week 36

We fished two days on the River Shushwap. I have never seen so many salmons running in a river. The water was like porridge with fishes 4-14 kilos. We tried serve our flies in between. The river is about 15-20 meters bride and the depth is max 2-3 meters. And the colour of the water, like running from your home faucet. You could see everything, that was running in the water! We had some hits in the evening. Then Tawny caught one Bull Troutin. Because troutfishing is there only C&R, this beaty was not our supper. A bit later again a shout, now she had a Chinook on. Me, Pete, running to help her and to see what is going on. I saw a 5-6 kilos salmon to jump up and the hook loose. OK, twenty seconds, and the lady got experience, what happening, when salmons runs on number 6 flyfishing equipments. The twilight came, and it was no use to go on fishing. To the lodge to dream about big salmons. In the morning again!
Next morning we were by the riverside again, and the fun went on. It was a pity, that did not take my two-handed salmon rods with me. We both had class 6 and 7 rods. The stream was so heavy in this place, that we had problems to sink our flies deep enough, to the places where salmons were. In the morning, when we were walking to the river, we almost got in hurry. A bear was sitting in the middle of the road and looked us coming. I think we all three got shocked. The teddy went to the cornfield and we to the river. There was a jumping show on. The flies into the water, some hits, but problem was again to sink the flies deep enough. Some hours eager fishing and a F***ing large head came up - and hit on. I tried to strike back, but the fish dived with the fly hanging on the jaws and running downstreams Three seconds later it was OFF! I think they heard in Vancouver, when a finn told the stories of his life. Later we caught again a Bull Trout. Lunch time!
In the daytime the weather was so sunny, that no fish were seen. We went to the river in the evening again and fished up till the darkness came. A lot of hits and a strange fish, which I did not know. I was really pissed, that I did not have my salmon rods with me. On the opposite side of the river there was a nice pool, where salmons took their resting time. There we saw in two days 30-40 fishes.
This was areally fine place near by Enderby town (or a village, 3000 people). The price of the licence is 16.01 CAD, that is about 10 euros. We did not see any other fishermen on the pools 2-3 kilometers, that Downstreams near by the town there was local fishermen, who sat on their chairs on a bridge.
The record of the River Shushwap this year is 32lbs, That is14-15 kilos. The fish was caught with a spoon. I will send some photos, when I have time to scan them.
The views were beautiful. We saw all kind of animals. Now our canadian trip is going on. Let us see were we are next.

Saturday at 11.30 o'clockJarno Saario from Lempaala caught a seatrout 6,9 kg (blooded). The fly was orange pupa size 10 and tippet 0,20 mm.
The water level is normal. Many searun trouts has been caught, last weekend in Puukoski 4 kg, and elsewhere in the river many over 2 kilos. Salmons are waiting the rains to come and raise the waterlevel.

About 20 pikes and about 20 perches. Pikes hit on firetiger, perches take silvery or motor oil. Pike are in the hitting mood, but perches act difficult.

In Korvensuu having a barbecue party and checking the river. I had a week time to think, what to serve to those big trouts. A larva tied in a small golden hook gave anice hit, but I lost the fish = NF.
My daughterJanni (1y 9 m) held first time a flyrod in her hand and reeled like a pro!

17 rainbows, the biggest 1,9 kg. In the morning fishes took deep running wobblers. In the afternoon lot of surface life. Fishes took dryflies. Nice weather, nice fishing!

In the morning again under the bridge. About 30 perches, biggest 600 g. Again two small pikes.

Fishing all the Ruunaa area in two days (=fastfishing). The waterlevel very low. No insectlife on the surface. One rainbow 45 cm and only three graylings, the biggest one 31 cm.

In the morning under the bridge about 40 perches, ten over half a kilo. In the evening testing different places, about 20 perches, the biggest 710 g. With float and dead bleak. We had to take two pikes, they are to be made in cream sauce.

Fishing under the big bridge from 12 - 5 o´clock pm. About 70 perches, medium weight 350 g, biggest 800g. About ten ones over half a kilo. Float and bleak combination was the best, good seconds were spinner and motor oil.

Some whitefishes from the lake and a couple of graylings fron the river = fishes to eat.
